Is your essay lacking in sentence structure? Are you wondering if grammar and syntax are keeping you from achieving that glorious A? We will help you improve your grammar and syntax in this blog with easy tips. Essay writing is a much simpler task if you focus all your energy on writing with discipline and following rules. Following are our tips and tricks to understand and handle the stylistic part of your essay writing.
• Keep It Simple: Use straightforward language. Keep your content simple and use simple sentences to express your ideas. Rosy language is good, but only as a sprinkle. If you burry your essay in metaphors and verbosity, then your work will lack the panache it needs to survive. Not to mention, your mistakes will be fewer if you use simple sentences and focus on clearly expressing your idea.
• Shorten It: Avoid long sentences. Never allow a sentence to go into the third line but avoid letting your sentence go beyond the middle of second line as well. Keep your sentences within the word limit of twenty words or less. If your sentence is running long, finish it and then break it into two sentences, or even three if there is a need. There is no hard and fast rule to keep all of your sentences short, but focus on keeping as many sentences short as possible with a variation of long sentences in the middle. This gives rhythm to your writing and make your essays look really well written.
• Redundancy: Avoid repeating your idea in fifteen words. ‘Awesomely fantastic’ is not a good phrase to use. Avoid using three words to mean the same thing; this takes away from the meaning rather than add to it. This is rather common among young students as it looks like it will reinforce an idea. But it pulls focus away from it instead.
• Excessive Qualifiers: So what is an excessive qualifier? Phrases such as ‘sort of’, kind of, ‘like’ and many others are all excessive qualifiers. Avoid using these in your sentences.
